Bengaluru, March, 08, 2022: Sakra World Hospital, a premier healthcare organization that boasts of Japanese cutting-edge technology delivering breakthrough healthcare in India, commemorated International Women’s Day today by conducting a 3 km walkathon starting from the hospital premises and covering Kadubesanahalli and nearby areas, promoting the message of #BreakTheBias and Gender Equality for a sustainable tomorrow. The walkathon was flagged off by Roopa Divakar Moudgil, Inspector General of Police, Bengaluru and the Head of Karnataka Handloom (Kauvery Emporium) and had more than 150 participants from the hospital.
Past few decades have witnessed enormous growth in every facet of life, including great advancements in various sectors with implications on technology as well as lifestyle. Several women have come to the forefront and attained positions of leadership all across the world. However, even today, women are underrepresented in many key positions and strategic roles in comparison to what they deserve. Gender equality is not just the fundamental right for every woman; it is also the only road to attain sustainable future.
Sharing her thoughts on disparities and discrimination in healthcare, Dr Shantala Thuppanna, HOD & Senior Consultant, Gynecological Laparoscopic Surgeon, Sakra World Hospital said, “Deliberate bias creates a hindrance for women to move forward and take action. Through this walkathon, we want to show solidarity with the cause of gender equality and encourage more people, both women & men, to commit to becoming inclusive. Apart from work, women should also focus on their mental and physical health, by concentrating on healthy diet, physical activities, avoiding unhealthy habits, taking good sleep, managing stress and undergoing periodic preventive checks”
Commenting on the need to dive deeper to ensure better health for women, Mr. Yuichi Nagano, Managing Director Sakra World Hospital, said, “As we all know, half of the world’s operations are handled by women. Especially in the healthcare industry, the ratio of female staff is comparatively more than male and on the whole, we cannot provide medical services without female staffs, who are talented, smart and kind. On this occasion, let’s remind ourselves the importance of treating women with deep respect.”
Speaking on the occasion, Roopa Divakar Moudgil, Inspector General of Police, Bengaluru, said, “According to a corporate study, it has been proven that organizations with women in key positions and leadership roles, tend to make greater progress and yield higher profitability. It is now time for women to come forward and mentor other women so that they become better at projecting their talent and skills. On this women’s day, let us focus on bringing women out of the four walls into the open working/corporate space, for the benefit of the society as well the nation.”
