Bengaluru, 20th November 2025: Shiprocket, India’s leading ecommerce enablement platform, successfully inaugurated its flagship summit, SHIVIR 2025, in Bengaluru today at The Ritz-Carlton. Centred on the theme ‘Bharat 2.0: AI, Tech & The Future of Intelligent Commerce,’ this edition marks Shiprocket’s strategic expansion into Southern India, positioning Bengaluru as a pivotal hub for future-ready commerce and digital innovation.
The summit served as the launchpad for a new, comprehensive report, developed in partnership with KPMG India, which underscores Bengaluru’s crucial role in shaping the nation’s commerce and technology landscape. Recognised as the country’s startup capital, the city reflects a powerful convergence of AI adoption, explosive quick commerce growth, and deep digital engagement, which continues to accelerate India’s estimated $125 billion retail economy.
The findings from the Shiprocket–KPMG Report showcase the remarkable digital transformation sweeping across India. By March 2025, India’s internet user base swelled to 969 million, marking a 9% year-on-year growth. Crucially, rural India now accounts for 488 million users, or 55% of the total, with women making up a significant 47% of this online population, signaling both expanded internet penetration and improved gender parity. This digital revolution is simultaneously fueling the adoption of hybrid “phygital” retail models, with traditional kirana stores increasingly embracing digital platforms.
This unprecedented digital foundation is propelling the Direct-to-Consumer (D2C) market toward a major landmark. The D2C market, which grew robustly from $11.6 billion in 2016 to $80 billion in 2024, is now firmly projected to cross the $100 billion milestone by 2025, driven by the innovation of over 11,000 active D2C brands. Similarly, quick commerce has established itself as a national phenomenon, projected to grow by 75-85% in 2025, reaching a $5 billion Gross Merchandise Value (GMV). The report indicates rapid consumer adoption, with 53% of users placing more than five monthly orders on quick commerce platforms, where impulse purchases account for 6-8% of sales.
A central theme of the report is how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing the entire commerce value chain. The data shows significant operational efficiency gains: demand forecasting accuracy now exceeds 90%, leading to a 40% reduction in stockouts and a 25% cut in excess inventory. Within logistics, warehouse automation is achieving up to 99.9% order accuracy while slashing operational costs by 20%. The impact of AI on customer engagement is equally profound, with personalized marketing boosting sales for 96% of marketers. Furthermore, AI-enabled vernacular commerce is highly impactful, touching 98% of India’s internet users who access regional languages. Reflecting a global leadership position, 59% of Indian enterprises with over 1,000 employees have already deployed AI, with 70% allocating over 5% of their IT budget to these initiatives. This collective movement reinforces the three pillars of intelligent commerce: Omnichannel Integration (used by 77% of shoppers), Personalized Experiences (preferred by 81% of consumers), and AI-Led Operations.
Commenting on the report, Saahil Goel, MD & CEO of Shiprocket, stated, “In today’s rapidly evolving commerce landscape, true innovation is about more than just technology, it’s about empowering every entrepreneur, big or small, in every corner of the country, to seize new opportunities and build sustainable growth. The Shiprocket-KPMG report captures the remarkable momentum driven by AI and digital adoption across India, with Bangalore standing out as a vibrant epicenter of creativity and technological advancement.
