STONA 2025 Opens in Bengaluru, Showcasing Global Stone Industry and Emphasizing “Make in India”

Bengaluru, India – February 12, 2025 – The 16th edition of STONA, the third-largest international stone fair, commenced today at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre. The four-day event features over 3,500 stalls from 18 countries, spanning more than 46,000 square meters.

Shri Krishan Kumar Vishnoi, Hon’ble Minister of State for Commerce & Industries, Govt of Rajasthan, inaugurated the event and urged support for the “Make in India” initiative to double the Indian stone industry’s value from ₹50,000 crore to ₹100,000 crore. He emphasized the importance of skill development for Indian youth and the adoption of advanced technology for efficient stone processing. Minister Vishnoi also encouraged FIGSI (Federation of Indian Granite and Stone Industry) to focus on R&D, particularly regarding waste utilization at quarry sites and technological advancements, through their Centers of Excellence.

FIGSI President, Mr. Krishna Prasad, acknowledged the challenges currently facing the industry and expressed hope for upcoming state amendments to address these issues. He also highlighted the environmental concerns surrounding quarry waste and suggested its potential use in various applications like aggregates, M-sand, and road construction. Mr. Prasad stressed the need to view waste as an asset.

STONA 2025 features country pavilions, exhibitor stalls, and a dedicated “Shilpgram” section showcasing the skills and products of approximately 25 traditional stone artisans from across India. FIGSI Secretary, Mr. Manoj Kumar Singh, explained that Shilpgram facilitates direct interaction between artisans and potential buyers, providing valuable market exposure and showcasing the artisans’ expertise.

In addition to the exhibits, STONA 2025 will host a seminar on “Skilling and use of technology for safe and sustainable mining,” featuring prominent scientists and speakers. The event provides a platform for national and international stakeholders in the natural stone industry to connect and explore opportunities.
