TACO Celebrates Two Years of Transforming Animal Welfare in India - thisweekindia

New Delhi, April 22, 2024: The Animal Care Organization (TACO) is celebrating two years of significant progress in improving animal welfare across India. Established in 2022 by the Anil Agarwal Foundation (AAF), Vedanta Ltd’s social impact arm, TACO has implemented a comprehensive six-pillar strategy focused on shelter, veterinary care, education, wildlife conservation, disaster relief, and industry development. This holistic approach aligns with the “One Health” model, ensuring a lasting positive impact on animals and their ecosystems.

Over 60,000 Animals Helped in Two Years

“TACO’s unwavering dedication has demonstrably transformed India’s animal welfare landscape in just two years,” said Ms. Priya Agarwal Hebbar, Anchor, TACO, Chairperson, Hindustan Zinc Ltd and Non-Executive Director, Vedanta Ltd. “We’ve directly helped over 60,135 animals through our initiatives.”

Faridabad Shelter Offers Sanctuary and Medical Care

TACO’s shelter in Faridabad has become a haven for over 160 rescued animals. Here, they receive essential medical care, including surgeries if needed, and a nurturing environment to heal and recover.

Protecting Endangered Species and Empowering Park Rangers

Recognizing the importance of wildlife conservation, TACO partnered with the Government of Rajasthan to strengthen protection efforts at Ranthambore National Park. Their contribution of INR 1 crore funded new patrolling vehicles, enhancing park rangers’ mobility and surveillance capabilities to combat poaching and safeguard endangered species.

Building a Culture of Compassion and Responsible Pet Ownership

TACO understands that long-lasting change requires a shift in societal attitudes. Through awareness campaigns and workshops in Delhi-NCR, they’ve promoted responsible and compassionate treatment of animals, advocated for responsible pet ownership, and encouraged community participation in animal welfare initiatives.

Making Veterinary Care Accessible in Urban Areas

To address the critical need for accessible veterinary services in urban areas, TACO has implemented several initiatives. They offer veterinary ambulance services to ensure animals in distress receive timely medical intervention. Additionally, a Mobile Health Van will soon be deployed in Delhi-NCR to further expand veterinary care access.

Training the Next Generation of Veterinary Professionals

TACO Academy provides training workshops for veterinary professionals in Delhi-NCR, aiming to bridge the gap in urban veterinary care. By building veterinary capacity, TACO ensures animals in these densely populated areas can access high-quality care.

Swift Response During emergencies

TACO’s commitment extends to emergency situations as well. During the Delhi Floods of 2023, their extensive relief and rescue efforts saved countless animals. Their swift response with boats and specialized rescue teams ensured even animals in remote areas received help. Through these efforts, TACO has ensured the well-being of over 4,850 animals across Delhi and Haryana.

Beyond Emergency Response: Preventive Care for Healthy Communities

TACO’s dedication goes beyond emergency response. They offer preventive care services such as vaccinations and treatment for common illnesses to maintain the overall health of animals in the communities they serve.

Looking to the Future: A Sustainable Model for Animal Welfare

With a commitment to long-term sustainability and ambitious plans for expansion across India, TACO is poised to make a significant impact on the future of animal welfare in the country. Their vision is to build a future where respect and care for animals are ingrained in society.
