Bengaluru, 22 December 2021: Despite the challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, women representation has improved significantly in the workforce across roles and hierarchies. The year 2021 brought a massive transformation, reflects apna.co – India’s largest jobs and professional networking platform. With around 50 lakh female users, apna has recorded trends that are encouraging and highlight the shifting dynamics of India’s rising workforce.
Based out of Bengaluru, apna witnessed a massive 260 percent increase in female users from the city in 2021. With more than 6 lakh female users from the city, the platform enabled 50 lakh interviews last year. According to apna, this will continue to increase in 2022.
The pandemic and its subsequent work-from-home regime created avenues for women to join the workforce. Female users also showed an inclination towards building professional networks and invested their time towards the same. apna became a safe space for them with more and enabled more than 38 lakhs professional interactions for female users in Bengaluru. Women in Bengaluru have been actively engaging in apna communities including business groups, learning languages, government exams preparation, delivery person group, sales & marketing and telecaller groups.
As per data from apna, on average women in Bengaluru interviewed for 11 jobs in 2021 – 24 percent more times than men. They are not only joining the workforce but also taking up unconventional jobs and breaking barriers created centuries ago.
With easily available and verified hyperlocal opportunities, mentorship programs and upskilling courses, apna became a default choice for India’s women workforce. Around 38 percent of the female users in Bengaluru are 12th pass or lower and rely on apna to find jobs and build their professional network. The platform has over 18,000 jobs for women with such education qualifications. Since 2019, apna has been working towards empowering millions of women by helping them find a career in 70 plus categories.
More popular roles on apna included telecallers and BPO, accounts/finance, computer/data entry operator, human resource, back office, teachers, receptionists, office assistants, business development and sales. Unlike last year, apna also recorded a rise in women applying for various non-traditional roles, including delivery partners, peons, lab technicians, security guard, cutting masters and drivers to name a few.
