Bengaluru, December 12, 2023: Athif, a proud student of Grade 8 at The Cambridge International School Bengaluru (TCIS), has achieved remarkable success by clinching the gold medal in the roller skating freestyle event at the 61st National Roller Skating Championship under the age category between 11 – 14 years. The competition, held in Chandigarh and Chennai , organized by the Roller Skating Federation of India, saw Athif compete against over 4,000 skaters representing 27 states and Union territories.

Athi’s dedication and talent shone through, earning him the top spot in the 11-14 age group. This remarkable accomplishment is a testament to his hard work, passion, and the excellent coaching he receives at TCIS.

The 61st National Roller Skating Championship witnessed an impressive turnout, with Andhra Pradesh sending the largest contingent of 368 skaters, followed by Chandigarh (254) and Tamil Nadu (336). The event included competitions in 12 disciplines, with skateboarding also seeing 141 entries across various age groups. The para-skate category also saw enthusiastic participation, with over 40 entries.

The Roller Skating Federation of India (INDIA SKATE), established in 1955, has been nurturing and promoting this sport for over six decades. It is affiliated with World Skate, the world parent body of roller skating, since 1971 and is a founder member of the Asian body World Skate Asia. Recognizing its efforts, the Government of India and the Indian Olympic Association have also granted recognition to INDIA SKATE.
