Under the ‘I Have Space’ (IHS) program, Amazon India partners with local store owners to deliver packages to customers

February 2022: As Amazon scales and expands its delivery network across the country, it continues to enable individuals and create opportunities to expand their horizons through its innovative last-mile delivery programs like ‘Amazon Flex’ and ‘I Have Space’ (IHS). These delivery programs are designed for individuals whose commitments do not suit the patterns of traditional work and prefer to choose their own schedule.
Bengaluru-based Girish A, an Amazon Flex partner and Kapa Harish, an IHS partner are stories of inspiration and determination, who are steering their life and building on their dreams while delivering for Amazon. Harish is a 35- year-old shop owner who was looking for ways to earn an extra income to support his wife and kids when his shop was temporarily closed during the lockdown. While Girish is a 20-year old student and an MBA aspirant who was looking for flexible options to earn to support his family and fuel his dreams. Although their aspirations were different, they both found opportunities within Amazon’s last mile delivery network which met their requirement and schedule.
Kapa Harish is a resident of Bengaluru. He started a small store in Sarjapur Road in early 2020, but the pandemic compelled him to shut his store temporarily leaving him in a financial crisis. This is when Harish learned about Amazon’s IHS program, which enabled him to earn a supplemental income by making deliveries for Amazon. Through the program, he has been able to manage his expenses like rental for his home and shop and pay the school fees for his children. Through the IHS program, Amazon India has successfully unlocked the entrepreneurial potential of several store owners allowing them to supplement their regular income by making deliveries for Amazon in their vicinity. The program has more than 28,000 neighborhood and kirana partners in close to 420 cities across its network in India.
“After joining Amazon’s IHS program, my life has seen a positive turn around and now I am working towards achieving my dream of building a home in Andhra Pradesh. If it wasn’t for Amazon, I would have been in financial distress,” says Kapa Harish, an Amazon I Have Space Store Partner.
Another inspiring story is that of Girish A, a 20-year-old college student and an Amazon Flex partner who stays in Srirampura in Bengaluru. He joined this delivery program in 2020 to earn a part time income to support his family, save for his college fees and his future ambition of completing an MBA degree. The Amazon Flex opportunity could not have come at a better time for Girish. The program’s flexibility allows Girish to pick his delivery schedule depending on his college commitments. With the Amazon Flex program, the company has created part-time opportunities for thousands of individuals to further their earning potential by delivering packages to customers in their free time. The program is now available in more than 65 cities in India.
Girish A, an Amazon Flex partner says, “Through the earnings from Amazon Flex, I am able to take care of my family’s basic needs like groceries, pay for college for my sister and myself and helped me repay for my bike loan. Now I am saving for my MBA. I am proud to be associated with Amazon and I wish to join the company after I complete my MBA.”

They are covered under different insurance programs and are also provided with regular coaching and training, spanning across technology, precautionary safety measures, road safety, and, customer interaction, amongst other areas.
