BENGALURU, August 25, 2026 — High school learning ecosystem Beyond 8 today announced the successful conclusion of Samvaada: Debate to Understand, an innovative two-day learning experience held on August 24–25 at its Koramangala Learning Centre. Designed to rethink the traditional school debate, the event brought together learners from diverse schools and backgrounds across Bengaluru to reframe disagreement as a tool for empathy, critical inquiry, and mutual understanding.
Unlike standard competitive debate formats that prioritize victory and rhetoric, Samvaada placed equal weight on active listening, questioning assumptions, and deep reflection alongside presentation skills. Over two days, participants progressed through interactive workshops, preliminary rounds, cross-group qualifiers, and final showcase debates. A core requirement of the format challenged learners to thoroughly articulate and understand an opposing viewpoint before formulating a counter-argument—encouraging them to examine how their own perspectives might evolve through dialogue.
The initiative responds directly to a modern media landscape where rapid digital communication and online echo chambers often discourage nuanced conversation. By engaging with peers outside their familiar social circles, participants practiced navigating different communication styles, finding common ground, and holding multiple perspectives simultaneously.
“Education cannot only be about giving learners the confidence to speak. It must also give them the maturity to listen, the curiosity to question, and the humility to acknowledge that they may not always have the complete answer,” said Raaji Naveen, Co-founder of Beyond 8. “When learners learn to disagree without dismissing the person on the other side, they are developing a capacity that extends far beyond a classroom or a debate. They are learning how to participate meaningfully in the world around them.”
Reflective learning formed a central component of the event. Between debate rounds and judge deliberations, students evaluated how their understanding shifted, identified which counter-arguments challenged them most, and considered how to apply these insights in daily life. The experience underscored Beyond 8’s goal of cultivating spaces where young people feel empowered to speak with confidence while remaining open to refining their views when presented with compelling evidence.
Samvaada reflects Beyond 8’s broader mission to go beyond conventional academic outcomes by building agency, resilience, and real-world critical thinking capabilities in high school students.
