BENGALURU, 5 November 2026 – SPARSH Hospitals has expanded access to specialized neurological critical care in North Bengaluru with the inauguration of a dedicated 10-bed Neuro Intensive Care Unit (Neuro ICU) at its Hennur facility. The specialized unit is equipped to handle complex neurological emergencies, including acute stroke, traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, severe seizures, brain infections, status epilepticus, Guillain–Barré syndrome, and myasthenia gravis.
The facility was inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr. S. Venkateswara Sharma, Deputy Director of the U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Bengaluru. He was joined by SPARSH Hospitals’ leadership team, including Jasdeep Singh, Group CEO; Col. Rahul Tewari, Cluster COO (Hennur and Yeshwanthpur); Dr. Murali Mohan, Lead Consultant – Neurosurgery; and Dr. Nithin Kumar N., Senior Consultant – Neurology, along with senior medical staff.
Advanced Infrastructure and Multidisciplinary Care
The newly launched 10-bed Neuro ICU incorporates state-of-the-art diagnostic and monitoring equipment, including continuous video EEG for seizure detection and intracranial pressure monitoring for traumatic brain injuries. To support complex cases involving multi-organ complications, the unit offers mechanical ventilation, advanced hemodynamic monitoring, and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT).
Operating under strict infection prevention protocols, the Neuro ICU provides seamless integration with on-site CT, MRI, and neuro-interventional radiology services for rapid diagnosis and treatment. Care is delivered 24/7 by a coordinated multidisciplinary team of neuro-intensivists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, critical care nurses, and rehabilitation specialists.
Standardized Protocols and Preventive Healthcare
Alongside the ICU launch, SPARSH Hospitals introduced its in-house Stroke Manual, designed to standardize clinical workflows across Hennur’s care teams. Comprising a comprehensive manual, an acute stroke workbook, and a pocket guide, the resource establishes unified, time-critical pathways from emergency department evaluation and rapid imaging to acute intervention, ICU management, and post-stroke rehabilitation.
Additionally, the hospital launched the Integrated Brain & Heart Stroke Prevention Clinic. Recognizing that cardiovascular and cerebrovascular conditions share common risk factors, the clinic brings together specialists in neurology, neurosurgery, and cardiology to identify high-risk individuals early and implement preventive interventions before major events occur.
Executive and Clinical Insights
Emphasizing the hospital’s strategic focus, Col. Rahul Tewari, Cluster COO, stated:
“Healthcare must evolve with the needs of the communities it serves. As Bengaluru continues to grow, access to advanced and specialized medical care closer to home becomes increasingly important. The launch of the Neuro ICU at Hennur reflects our commitment to bringing together clinical expertise, advanced technology, and compassionate care to make specialized healthcare more accessible to the community.”
Dr. Murali Mohan, Lead Consultant – Neurosurgery, highlighted the clinical impact of dedicated critical care:
“Patients with critical neurological conditions require continuous monitoring, rapid clinical assessment, and timely medical intervention. A dedicated Neuro ICU enables us to closely monitor brain function, identify complications early, and coordinate treatment through a multidisciplinary approach. This is particularly important in cases of acute stroke and severe neurological injuries, where timely intervention can make a significant difference.”
Dr. Mohan added that the combination of early risk screening via the new prevention clinic and standardized emergency protocols via the stroke manual ensures both proactive prevention and rapid, consistent execution during acute medical crises.
The dual expansion of critical care capabilities and preventive screening reinforces SPARSH Hospitals’ commitment to delivering comprehensive, patient-centered neurological care across North Bengaluru.
