Pune, 4th April: Pune police have arrested 4 people in charge of illegal betting on Saturday. The accused were allegedly betting on the match between the Delhi Capitals and the Gujrat Titans, which was played at MCA Stadium in Pune on Saturday. The betting racket was busted on Saturday in Kalewadi. According to the police reports, the FIR was filed on Sunday.

Among the four people arrested, one is a repeat offender. The police recovered Rs 27 lakh and eight mobile phones. According to online betting statistics, 1.4 crore people bet in India regularly, and in an event such as the IPL, this number may increase tremendously to 3.7 crores

Deputy Commissioner of Police Manchak Ippar said, “Acting on a tip-off, a raid was conducted in Kalewadi area of Pimpri Chinchwad city in Pune district and the accused were arrested red-handed. The matter has been registered against them at the Wakad police station under IPC sections 353 and 34, Telegraph act and Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act.”
